The mission of Southwest Forensic Nursing and Healthcare is to provide patient-centered and trauma-informed healthcare to survivors of violence.  Through a dedicated team of forensic-trained healthcare professionals this non-profit organization offers assessment, treatment, evidence collection, documentation and referral to additional resources from their multi-disciplinary partners.

Although it's not a happy conversation to have, this program will provide important information and resources and will be a safe referral for anyone you know who has been a victim of violence.   So "bring your one!"

Hurricane Valley Easter Car Show
Apr 08, 2023 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

SGR's board has had many discussions relating to a car show fundraiser but are still considering whether or not this is a project our club can take on.

A visit to the 2023 Hurricane Rotary Easter Car Show - a Southern Utah car enthusiast favorite for 36 years - will likely answer our questions.

This popular and profitable one-day car show will, once again be held in Hurricane on Easter Saturday, April 8 at the Hurricane Community Center (100 W 100 S).  From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this will be an exciting day filled with more than 300 fabulous vintage vehicles, hot rods and good company.

The annual event, organized by the Rotary Club of Hurricane Valley, is expected to draw a crowd of 8,000-10,000 visitors and raise about $50,000 for some bigger, better, bolder service projects, such as their HVRC-sponsored all abilities park.

Entry is $5 at the gate.

"The Good, Bad and Indifferent of Washington County Growth"

Apr 17, 2023 11:58 AM

Do you remember when St. George had just one street light?

Do you remember when 700 South was considered out-of-town?

Do you remember when all of our kids went to the same high school?

Do you know the St. George LDS Tabernacle's "official" designation in the community?

Do you remember what Jay Ence brought to St. George ... because they're NOT native to this area?

Do you know who wrote "Are You from Dixie?"  Can you sing it from memory?

Were you here when the dam broke? Do you know how many name changes Utah Tech has had?  How many locations?  Do you know what 3 things officially put St. George on the map?

These questions may not be discussed in the program on Monday, May 17 but you can be sure you will leave with LOTS of good information about the growth curve in our community. ... and what's ahead in the next 2-5 decades.  And, don't forget to "bring your one.

"Dissecting the Colorado River Compact and Effects on Dixie Area Water"

Apr 24, 2023 11:58 AM

Water is a very hot topic these days.  The Great Salt Lake isn't so great anymore.  Lake Powell, like its downstream neighbor Lake Mead, stands at a quarter of its full capacity exposing for the first time in decades the decaying natural wonder of Glen Canyon,  Unprecented rain and snowfall throughout the Beehive State is wreaking havoc with flooding in all parts of the state.

So, is the 20-year drought over or is this just an anomoly in our high desert region?

On Monday, April 24, Zach Renstrom, Executive Director of the Washington County Water Conservancy District will help us sort out all these questions while helping us better understand the Colorado River Compact and its effect on Dixie area water.

"Each one, bring on" to the Abbey Inn.

Dale Desmond will provide the music.  We will enjoy dinner from a popular food truck with tres leches cake for dessert. There will also be pinatas, socializing and anything else we can throw in the mix to make it a memorable paaaaaarteeee!

On a (hopefully) beautiful afternoon of Wednesday, May 3, Rotarians, family members, neighbors, friends and co-workers are needed to assemble welcome packets for participants in the North American IRONMAN 70.3 Championship.  This "service above self" project will be held on Town Square from 2:30 to 6 p.m. (or until we are done).

The more Rotarians the better because the IRONMAN Foundation has grant opportunities for which we can apply if our presence can be made known.  So, be sure to wear your new yellow shirt!
