REGIONAL MEETING A SUCCESS:
On Monday, July 29, 2024, St. George Rotary invited representatives of all Rotary clubs in SoUT to gather to discuss “what’s happening in your club? what works well? What help do you need from the rest of us?”
Dale Desmond, Vice-chair of the SGR Foundation noted:
Our club does a lot of small local service … and the Guatemala stoves project
Our next big project is our 2nd annual car show in the parking lot of Red Cliffs Mall on October 5 from 5-9 p.m.
Help needed from other clubs: can you share your list of participants in your car show?

Thanks to Dave and Dale for putting this event together. It is hoped it will continue as an annnual event, rotating from club-to-club each year.
Logan Winder, President of the Hurricane Valley RC reported:
The Easter car show is our big annual fundraiser which requires “all hands on deck” for two months for a total of more than 1,000 service hours
Our last big service project was the creation of an All Abilities Park
Our current big service project is the creation of a Veterans Memorial Park in a partnership with Hurricane City.
HVRC needs to have more small “service above self” in the local community
Help needed:we need help starting a local foundation

Scott Florence, President of the Washington City Club the newest of the area Rotary clubs, notes:
Their biggest project is the recent 3rd annual Mayor’s Cup golf tournament where they raised $15,000
They have several regular small projects, including a mobile food bank and support of Neighborhood Connections, both designed to help those in need of food
They are looking at a potential “all clubs” project involving cleanup along the Virgin River

Norman Utley, President of the newly reorganized Mesquite Rotary club which meets on Wednesday evenings at 5 p.m. in the Mesquite City Library, reports:
A mud volleyball tournament which, last year, attracted 32 teams (ages 18 and over) and which will be held this year on September 21.
What’s working well is the use of the smart phone app called BAND which keeps members current and connected about what’s happening in their club

Todd Boyer, District 5420's RY2024-25 Governor, commented:
Cedar City Rotary’s car show raised $100,000 this year and their golf tournament raised $12,000 which provides sponsorships for organizations in and around Cedar City, including $7500 this year to SGR’s Guatemala stoves project.

More sad news on the fight to eradicate polio. Another new case of wild polio with paralysis was diagnosed this week bringing the worldwide total to 18 ... 9 each in Afghanistan and Pakistan as we move into "polio season." This is more cases midway through 2024 than in all of 2023.
Currently, just 53.3% of 1.4 million Rotarians and Rotaractors give to PolioPlus.
Imagine how much faster we could cross the polio eradication finish line if 73.3% ... or 93.3% joined the Polio Plus Society at a cost of just $8.50 a month or gave an annual donation of $100 until the wild polio virus is finally and forever eradicated.
