Same day and time, but our location for SGR's meeting on Monday, February 27has been changed to Oceans Buffet at 350 E. St. George Blvd.
It's springtime in Dixie ... let's plant some trees!
SGR's tree-planting project, initiated by former member Greg Zemp in support of RI’s 7th area of focus - "protecting the environment” - will involve our club helping St. George City plant 40+ trees at Vernon Worthen Park.
We will kick off this project on the grounds of the beautiful new Washington County Administration Building located – in case you’ve missed it - at 10 N. 100 East in honor of former Rotarian and Washington County Commissioner Dean Cox.
A short and simple "ceremony" on Tuesday, February 28 at 3 p.m. will include the three currently serving commissioners and Larene Cox, placing an engraved stone in Dean's name at the foot of the first of our trees on the north side of the new building.
Again this year, SGR is selling sweet, delicious, thin-skinned, easy-to-peel California ORANGES. However, there are 3 changes to this fundraising event from previous years:
The per case price has gone up to $52 … due to California’s extended drought – followed by excessive rainfall - and the nation’s current rate of inflation (and no doubt the huge loss of orange crops in Florida this year).
Last year we had two cycles of orange sales selling 233 cases.This year we’re going to take this show on the road for our 2nd sell cycle at the Washington County Fair (April 20-22).
We have reserved the district’s iron lung to display along with information about polio eradication through Polio Plus and SGR’s Guatemala stoves project … both recipients of our funds raised.
We will also have applications and information about Rotary for those who might be interested in our causes and in getting involved!
If you have sold oranges in prior years, your list of past buyers is available by request, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE sell ORANGES in support of our Guatemala stoves project, dictionaries, and Polio Plus!
Cost this year is $52 for a full case, $28 for a half case or $15 for a quarter case. The deadline to order isMarch 13for the first cycle with ORANGES delivered the following week.
SGR's Membership Chair Ray Absher invites you to generate a list of potential new members. Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker [ok, they don't exist anymore...], the guy who services your car; your neighbor, sister-in-law, best friend from high school, the guy or gal you play golf with, or a co-worker might be on your list.
