Monday, January 8, 2024 is technically SGR's first Monday of the New Year which means its time for our monthly board meeting! Please plan to meet at the Best Western Abbey Inn promptly at 10:45 a.m. As always, we have lots to discuss as we head into the 2nd half of RY2023-24.

SGR kicks off 2024 with 300 busy and noisy "littles"
Craft projects were made with help from Rotarians
Balloon animals were a big hit in the science room
The kids counted down until 3000 balloons dropped from the ceiling!
A photo booth drew friends and family groups from everywhere
Hula hoops and games were popular activities
SGR's next bigger, better, bolder "service above self" project is an effort to remind and re-emphasize the Dixie Spirit which built and supports this great community. This project will recognize "forever Dixie" with the renovation of the 1936 monument on the SE corner of 86 S. Main Street (the original Dixie Academy established in 1911) including a plaque acknowledging the progression of Dixie Academy to Dixie State University.
Master stonemason Paul Lillywhite, who did the renovation of the firepit at Vernon Worthen Park, has committed to doing the necessary repairs in a partnership between SGR and the City of St. George.
Dan McArthur, Rotarian, former SG City Mayor and one of only a handful of St. George-ites who started and completed his early education in this building which is now home for the St. George Children's Museum, has accepted the role of fundraising chairman.
Estimated cost for this renovation is approximately $9500, including the plaque.

RYLA - and Rotary Youth Exchange - deadlines fast approaching
The application deadline of Friday, March 1 for sophomores or juniors (in the 2024-25 school year) interested in attending RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) - or adventurous teens considering the possibility of a (school) year long international exchange is fast approaching.
This earlier date for RYLA is a result of the District's decision to move this popular event to June 10-13 (summertime rather than during the school year) at Wasatch Academy in Pleasant Grove.

New Year ... new count of polio cases! As Rotarians and the world knows, we finished 2023 with12 cases (6 each in both Afghanistan and Pakistan) and in the 8th day of the new year there are NO NEW CASES. But that doesn't mean we're done with polio forever.
Even with these small numbers this terrible disease has not yet been eradicated and is still very much a threat to the children of the world.
RESOLVE to help us achieve RI's end goal of ZEROby joining the Polio Plus Society at just $8.50 per month until polio is - finally and forever - eradicated from the earth, 'cause this fight isn't over til its over!
