September is RI's Basic Education and Literacy Month AND September 11 is the National Day of Service. So on September 12, a hoped-for 16 members of SGR will have the opportunity to recognize both by providing "service above self" while reading to / with struggling students at Sunset Elementary School. We will serve at 495 N. Westridge Drive after completing a short training. Sign up for the best time in your busy day.

SGR's 10th annual golf tournament will be held on Thursday, September 21 at Sunbrook Golf Course. Chairman Chris Parker's goal "more than last year" and he has the full support of his committee, including Dave Watson, Paul Tikalsky, Ed Sappington and Rob Nodine.
To date, there are 22 teams signed up to play and6 hole sponsorships still available to support this fun fundraising event. The deadline to commit is Sept. 14, to give us enough time to have posters made.

SGR was represented at D5420's "social event of the RY2023-24 year" by Bryan and Kathy Thiriot, Jim and Joann Coleman and Ed and Linda Sappington most who dressed for the occasion in "black ties and boots" and enjoyed good food, good friends and good fun at the Davis Convention Center in Bountiful on the evening of Saturday, September 9.
DG John Redd's substitute for a district conference (DC2024 will be making a time change to the springtime rather than at the end of the Rotary year) included a native American blessing over the event performed by Shoshone native Many Feathers Lee. Also on the program was the recognition of Mike and Sheila Deputy (Salt Lake Club) who recently gave $500,000 to the Arch Klumph Society of The Rotary Foundation. Entertainment was provided by 14-year-old Kimberly Jaramillo who announced the upcoming release of her first solo album; and RI Director Dan Himelspach was the motivational speaker.
It was a delightful evening with about 300 Rotarians and friends of Rotary from all around District 5420.
Attendance was at a near record 46% (not including our three guests) on Monday, August 28. Fun meeting at Chef Alfredo's Ristorante Italiano where we heard from representatives of the upcoming Dixie Power Kite Festival.
The total cases of wild polio since NYD 2023 - anywhere in the world - is still holding steady at
7(5 in Afghanistan and 2 in Pakistan) - but don't be fooled into believing this terrible disease has been eradicated because it is still very much a threat to the children of the world.
PLEASE help us achieve RI's goal of ZEROby joining the Polio Plus Society at just $8.50 per month until polio is - finally and forever - eradicated from the earth, 'cause this fight isn't over til its over!
